Projects in the water and projects under development.
Status: Secured CfD (AR7 Auction)
Technology: TetraSub
Project size: 92.5 MW
The Pentland Floating Wind Farm is a large-scale commercial floating wind project located off the coast of Scotland. The project has secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the UK’s AR7 allocation round, marking a key milestone for commercial deployment.
Stiesdal Offshore’s TetraSub has been selected as the foundation technology for the project. The project applies Stiesdal Offshore’s industrialized foundation design to a 92.5 MW commercial-scale development intended to deliver cost-competitive floating wind power to the UK grid.
Status: In Production (Welcon A/S)
Mission: De-risking 15 MW+ deployment
Project size: 15 MW+
The Floating Frontrunner is a Joint Industry Project (JIP) led by Stiesdal Offshore to validate the deployment and operation of the next generation of floating wind foundations. The project centers on a TetraSub Demonstrator currently in fabrication at Welcon in Denmark and is focused on qualifying the installation and operation of ultra-large turbines (236 m+ rotor diameter).
Designed for flexibility, the Floating Frontrunner unit is being prepared for deployment at one of several candidate sites in Northern Europe. The project aims to create an open data framework for participating partners, sharing critical information on manufacturing, mooring, and turbine integration to support bankability across the sector.
Status: Operational since 2021
Location: Norway (METCentre)
Project size: 3.6 MW
The world’s first fully industrialized floating wind system. Commissioned in 2021 by a consortium comprising Shell, RWE, TEPCO, and Stiesdal, the TetraSpar Demonstrator proved that floating foundations can be mass-produced without welding at port of embarkation.
Operating in harsh North Sea conditions, the system has consistently delivered availability exceeding 98%, validating the core physics of the tetrahedral concept and its suitability for industrial-scale deployment.
Status: Completed and ongoing
Scope: Product, execution, and supply chain readiness
Project size: Multi-scale (pre-project to gigawatt-scale)
In addition to named projects, Stiesdal Offshore has completed early engineering studies for a broad range of customers. These studies address both the product itself and the practical pathways required to deliver floating wind foundations at scale.
Typical work includes site-specific adaptation, preliminary design and interfaces, execution planning, and supply chain and fabrication assessments across relevant regions. This early-phase work helps clarify technical options, de-risk project delivery, and establish credible cost and schedule assumptions ahead of formal project development.
Stiesdal Offshore supports floating wind projects across the full project lifecycle, from early engineering in Pre-FEED and FEED through post-FID/FC Detailed Design. Beyond design, the company provides technical support during fabrication and port assembly, with engineering support through installation and commissioning to verify execution and delivery.
